These are machined to tight tolerances with a non-reflective manganese phosphate finish, pull-tested to over 450 pounds of tension. The metal loop the sling rides on is properly formed so it doesn’t sway or sit crooked, and the ball bearings are evenly quartered so it locks square into the socket every time. It’s the same or higher quality than the big-name QDs — Magpul included — because it comes off the same kind of US machining a serious swivel should.

Not all QDs are the same — here’s how to tell

We inspect these before they go out, and over the years we’ve shown a lot of customers how to spot a lower-grade QD. The tells are consistent:

• The metal ring the sling attaches to feels like cheaper, softer metal
• The metal loop sways too far left or right instead of sitting stable
• The ball bearings aren’t evenly quartered around the post
• The ball-bearing placement is off-center or lopsided

Those aren’t cosmetic issues. A QD that releases when it shouldn’t, or wears loose over time, is a safety problem and a good way to lose a rifle. Saving a few dollars on an unbranded import isn’t worth it on the one piece of hardware holding your weapon to your body.
